Wellness can be a subject often misunderstood and often overlooked by the general population. Many interpret the word WELLNESS as a absence of illness. When we really think about it there are so many different aspects to health and wellness that I will evaluate today.
Consider each of these dimensions to your own wellness and take the time to care for yourself in ways that will keep you happy, healthy, and well. And don't forget to Stop and smell the roses.
- Emotional Wellness - The part of wellness that I personally have struggled with for many years. Emotional wellness allows us to cope with what life throws at us. From being reprimanded by a boss to the death of a loved one we all have our own different way of dealing and coping with things. By allowing ourselves to see and analyze how we react to certain events, we are able to grow and adapt into a healthy minded human being. A healthy mind allows for a healthy body and a healthy life.
- Physical Wellness - The aspect of health most closely associated with wellness in the mind of most Americans. Known as possibly the most important part of our overall well-being, it is commonly known that if our body is hurting or having a dysfunction in anyway it can impact other dimensions of life and cause a decline in quality of life.
- Spiritual Wellness - Commonly mistaken for religion, spirituality can be your moral compass and the hope you have for your own life. Whether you believe in a greater power or not, who knows, but positivity and hope in humanity is the simplest form of spirituality.
- Social Wellness - A sense of belonging to a general group makes us feel like we have security in numbers. Having companionship to cry with and to laugh with contributes to a healthy level of wellness.
- Environmental Wellness - Having a comfortable space to live and make a home is essential for many people's happiness and wellness. Some of us aren't in the best most comfortable places and would greatly benefit from the peace of having a calm, clean, quiet space.
- Intellectual Wellness - The satisfaction of accomplishing school or finishing a book or solving a hard math problem is good for the mind and helps maintain a healthy sense of self esteem.
- Financial Wellness - The comfort of being able to pay rent and afford healthy food is a wonderful thing. The human race loves food and we all love a roof over our heads, these days. Hard work pays off because it earns a sense of peace.
- Occupational Wellness - To follow along with # 7 occupational wellness is hard to come by for many people. Finding the right job/career that shows off our talents and pays a livable wage is what we all strive for. "Love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life."
Consider each of these dimensions to your own wellness and take the time to care for yourself in ways that will keep you happy, healthy, and well. And don't forget to Stop and smell the roses.
